Real Madrid has announced that they have bought the Portugese left back Fabio Coentrao from the Portugese club Benfica for about 27 million pounds. Coentrao was one of the most courted defender this transfer window, and he denied clubs like Chelsea and Bayern Munich to join Los Blancos. As good as Coentrao is, I think this is a case of Madrid spending for the sake of spending. They currently have Marcelo and Ramos on the wing, and I doubt Coentrao will get much starting opportunities. 27 million is a lot of money, and Madrid should have put that towards securing a world class striker, which if you don't count Ronaldo, they lack. Madrid are one of the few clubs who can afford to put down that kind of money for someone who will not start right away, but I do not agree with this expensive transfer.
